Havfisk commissions USD 37.9 million trawler

Singapore-listed Vard Holdings Limited has secured a new contract for the design and construction of one stern trawler for the Norwegian fishing company Havfisk ASA, for appoximately NOK 325 million (USD 37.9 million).
The trawler will be built at Vard Braila in Romania, and according to the shipbuilding company it will be the first of its kind. It will have a length of 80 meters and two separate cargo holds for refrigerated and frozen fish, a fish factory and a freezing capacity of 80 tonnes per 24 hours.
The new vessel is expected to be delivered in the beginning of 2018. Havfisk says its construction will be financed by bank loan and will have limited effect on the company's liquidity.
The new vessel will be a combination trawler that is able to deliver both fresh and frozen fish. It will have good catch capacity for both white fish and shrimp, and all residual raw material will be made use of.
Havfisk highlights that the contracting of a new vessel for delivery in the beginning of 2018 enables the company to make use of regulations allowing the replacements vessels quotas to be fished with other vessels in its fleet.
The Norwegian fishing firm will thereby have nine vessels in operation in 2016, which is expected to give certain savings in operating costs.
"Havfisk has in recent years renewed and upgraded the fleet. With this newbuild Havfisk will increase the efficiency and flexibility further. The new vessel will be an attractive and modern workplace for our employees," says CEO Webjørn Barstad.
Vard has in the past developed a series of three fishing vessels for Havfisk: Gadus Poseidon, Gadus Njord and Gadus Neptun, which were delivered in 2013 and 2014.
