Pacific Seafood moves operations into plant close to the damaged one
(UNITED STATES, 6/10/2013)
Pacific Seafood and its insurance company, Wells Fargo Insurance, have begun conducting their own investigation into what caused a fire at the plant in Warrenton, after the Office of State Fire Marshal of Oregon assured there were no signs of foul play.
Pacific Seafood CEO Frank Dulcich said he hopes to have a cause decided on before Monday.
He also said that workers will still be given pay and benefits while he tried to get a lease signed this week for a new temporary facility, which would provide the 142 employees a place to work by 15 June.
While he did not reveal where exactly that facility will be located, Dulcich said it is in the Astoria area and will be fully operational for processing Pacific whiting and sardines by the start of the season.
“For our team members, we told them that through Friday, everybody would get paid, all benefits and everything,” he said, The Daily Astorian reports.
“But now we’ve made another determination because we believe we have got another location to move everyone to. That’s about 142 people we’ve identified in our team that we will continue to pay until we get up and running again,” Dulcich continued.
After setting a 48-hour goal, it only took 26 hours after firefighters extinguished the fire at the Warrenton facility to re-establish its office, ice facility and fuel dock to host the vessels that will continue to deliver seafood in Warrenton.
The investigation into last week’s fire at the Warrenton plant involved the State Fire Marshal, Oregon State Police, Clatsop County Fire Investigation Team, Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Seaside Fire Department fire marshal.
The investigation went on for two days and was unable to find evidence that the cause of the fire was incendiary in nature or due to any criminal act.
