Hayduk anticipates costly investment plan
(PERU, 7/3/2013)
The company Hayduk Corporación plans to invest around USD 38 million over the next 18 months in order to strengthen its main lines of products for direct human consumption (DHC) and for indirect human consumption (IHC).
The chairman of the fisheries board, Walter Martinez Moreno, explained that until the end of 2013 investments for USD 18 million are expected, and in 2014, for further USD 20 million, Diario de Chimbote reported.
"We have already started investments in our frozen product plant Coishco, in Chimbote, in order to maintain our leadership in the line of DHC," the entrepreneur pointed out.
"In the same way we have begun evaluating the project of our frozen food plant in Tambo de Mora, Chincha, where we will make major investments," he added.
In addition, a portion of the investments will be used to modernize the vessels and improve their refrigeration systems in order to boost the quality of the raw material for fishmeal and fish oil production.
Martínez Moreno also commented that Hayduk is adopting gas systems instead of diesel ones.
"That will allow us to fulfill our vision of social responsibility and environmental commitment while obtaining higher quality products thanks to a clean combustion," the fishing firm executive added.
On the other hand, he confirmed that at the auction the company was allocated 1,137 cubic metres of the lots corresponding to the quota of 5,000 tonnes for tuna fishing, assigned to Peru by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC).
With that quota, the company expects to offer the local market about 350,000-400,000 boxes "of the highest quality" product for DHC.
Since it has been allocated this bid, Hayduk becomes the first company to fish for tuna in Peru, stressed Martinez Moreno.
Apart from generating employment, this participation in the tuna industry will help the company to move its own brands "to a new level" and to once more place Peru "on the world circuit in the industry, after several decades." "It's a big responsibility for our corporation," stated the executive.
Hayduk is a 100% Peruvian company with over 20 years of market presence. Its first operations were focused on the manufacture of fishmeal and fish oil, but then it was diversified to manufacture product lines for human consumption.
