Samherji purchases British distributor to strengthen its position in the UK
(ICELAND, 7/18/2018)
Icelandic seafood firm Samherji has purchased a marketing and distribution company in the United Kingdom in a bid to strengthen its position in this important market for cod and haddock.
The purchased firm, Collins Seafoods, is headquartered in Newton Aycliffe, Duram, south of Newcastle in England, and also has a Leeds distribution centre.
Collins sells and distributes seafood frozen in central and northern England to a large number of customers who are mainly fish and chips restaurants.
Its turnover during the past operating year was over GBP 60 million and sold over 10,000 tonnes of seafood products from Norway, Russia, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and elsewhere.
Collins Seafood, which was founded 35 years ago and employs over 30 people in office and in distribution, has been a major customer of Samherji in England for many years.
Seagold, the sales company of Samherji in England, has been selling and marketing Samherji's products in the UK market for 21 years and will continue to work closely with Collins Seafood for these projects.
Samherji has taken operations in Collins Seafood since 1 July
