The two organizations commit to collaborate actively mitigating aquaculture potential impacts on the environment and promoting sustainable aquaculture procedures in Italy.
The agreement had been signed in the presence ofGiuseppe Castiglione, the State Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forest Policies.
Friend of the Sea helps to raise consumers' awareness of the positive return for the environment generated by aquaculture when compared to other ways of producing animal proteins.
Friend of the Sea will develop guidelines and it will provide technical support including training courses to promote sustainable aquaculture.
API received Friend of the Sea 2017 Award.
API received Friend of the Sea 2017 Award, in recognition of API’s commitment to the promotion of sustainable aquaculture in Italy.
“Friend of the Sea is the main sustainable aquaculture certification in Italy, with over 50 approved sites, and one of the major ones worldwide” explains Paolo Bray, Founder and Director of Friend of the Sea.
“We are responsible to motivate farmers improve their practices and make consumer aware of the positive return for the environment generated by aquaculture when compared to other ways of producing animal proteins. We are glad to join effort with API on this path toward sustainable aquaculture,” Bray added.

The Italian Aquaculture Producers Association (A.P.I.), founded in June 1964, is a non-profit corporation. It aims to protect, develop and consolidate all activities related to fish-breeding both in fresh and in salt and brackish waters.
