Chicken of the Sea Leverages its Salmon Leadership with New Flavoured Salmon Pouches

  (UNITED STATES, 10/20/2014)

Best known for its tuna, Chicken of the Sea® is capitalizing on its leadership in salmon with this month’s launch of a new line of Flavored Salmon Pouches specially formulated to offer a healthy, convenient and tasty lunch alternative to traditional midday salads, sandwiches and rice bowls.

The new line is part of an ongoing transformation of the iconic, 100-year-old brand from a provider of affordable protein to a leading culinary innovator offering the new products, recipes and meal-planning insights needed to empower seafood fans to greater in-kitchen creativity and inspiration.

Now available at stores nationwide, the three new Chicken of the Sea Flavored Salmon Pouches represent the industry’s first line of flavored salmon pouches and draw from the company’s pioneering position in pouched salmon.

The new varieties provide a healthy, convenient and tasty lunch alternative.
• Chicken of the Sea Lemon Pepper Flavored Salmon Pouch: Premium, wild-caught Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon seasoned with zesty lemon pepper in a 2.5-ounce pouch.
• Chicken of the Sea Barbecue Flavored Salmon Pouch: Premium wild-caught Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon mixed with a tangy Barbecue seasoning in a 2.5-ounce pouch.
• Chicken of the Sea Sweet & Spicy Flavored Salmon Pouch: Premium wild-caught Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon combined with the perfect combination of sweet and spicy seasonings in a 2.5-ounce pouch.

“As the recognized salmon sales leader, Chicken of the Sea enjoys unrivaled salmon expertise and product history – and it is this experience level that made creation of the industry’s first pouched flavored salmon line possible,” explained Erin Mrozek, Chicken of the Sea director of brand marketing.

“While most Americans know us for our tuna, we were the first to introduce skinless and boneless salmon in 1984, and have been strong supporters of the health, convenience, versatility and recipe-development benefits of pouched salmon ever since.”

Chicken of the Sea enjoys unrivaled salmon expertise and product history.

According to Mrozek, salmon is the country’s third-most consumed seafood and has enjoyed a resurgence on restaurant menus and as an alternative protein source, especially at breakfast. This growth in wild salmon, fueled by a combination of taste and health benefits, including the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids, has led to untapped consumer demand for pouched and canned salmon relative to tuna and other seafood.

“While Flavored Salmon Pouches were created to meet the growing demand for a convenient, alternative protein source, we expect the taste varieties in the new line to encourage new pouched salmon fans by creating compelling new usage occasions,” Mrozek added.

The pouches make it easy to transform routine lunchtime salads, sandwiches and rice bowls into any number of inspired midday creations.

Product development experts at Chicken of the Sea are looking at introducing new Flavored Salmon Pouch taste varieties in the future.

The launch of Flavored Salmon Pouches serves as a new product focus for Chicken of the Sea: 100 Years of Good, a year-long celebration of the iconic brand’s Centennial anniversary in 2014. A highlight of the celebration is the Great American Gratitude Tour, a 39-city, coast-to-coast journey hosted by the famous Chicken of the Sea Mermaid and honoring nonprofits and individuals for extraordinary grassroots community service.

In all, the brand will award $1 million to more than 100 organizations and individuals bringing good to their communities in one of the largest, most comprehensive Pay it Forward initiatives in consumer packaged goods history.

Chicken of the Sea is best known for its tuna.
