Epax is a leading global supplier of concentrated marine-based omega-3 fatty acids.

Epax Omega-3 Fish Oils Confirmed Sustainable

  (NORWAY, 6/18/2014)

Epax Omega-3 concentrates have been confirmed to be compliant with Friend of the Sea standards following renewal audit and can now keep on carrying Friend of the Sea seal of approval.

Epax has been the first Omega-3 processor to be awarded the Friend of the Sea sustainability certification five years ago.

The state-of-the-art processing facility for nutraceutical ingredients is located at the top of the pristine fjords in Ålesund, Norway.

The fish oil at the base of the whole product line is sourced from anchovies fished in the South East Pacific Ocean (FAO Area 87) only by approved Friend of the Sea purse seine fleets. The fishery is managed according to Friend of the Sea sustainable criteria, with highly selective fishing methods and from stocks that are neither overfished nor overexploited.

Epax produces ultra-pure omega-3 ingredients.

A full traceability system is in place throughout the supply chain, from the fisheries to manufacturing facility and the finished product.

“The Friend of the Sea certification is very important to us because it acknowledges our commitment to sustainable fishing practices and our sense of responsibility concerning natural resources”, explains Thomas Gulbrandsen, Sales Director of Epax.

"There is an increasingly strong demand for sustainable and traceable production by environmentally aware consumers and we wish to fully enable brand owners to respond to this by using our ingredients", says Gulbrandsen.

“This certification confirms Friend of the Sea eco label presence in the Omega-3 market and its acceptance as standard of sustainability for the Omega-3 industry”, adds Mr. Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea.

The crude fish oil for Epax nutraceutical concentrates is based on anchovy and comes only from Friend of the Sea suppliers.
