Pollock and herring catches are growing
(RUSSIAN FEDERATION, 3/21/2024)

The fishery progress was discussed at a weekly meeting of the headquarters for organizing the production of pollock and herring in the Sea of Okhotsk and Bering Sea in the Far Eastern fishery basin (season “A” - winter-spring period).
The number of trawl fleets has decreased due to weather conditions and ice conditions: since the beginning of the fishing week, a cyclone has approached the Sea of Okhotsk, but fields of heavy ice occupy a significant area and impede the free fishing of pollock and, especially, herring.

By March 19, about 100 vessels were working on the expedition; safety was provided by the tugboat “Spravedlivy” of the Far Eastern expeditionary detachment of rescue vessels of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.
There are 24 transport vessels operating in the fishing area; overloads are controlled by 38 inspectors of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia. There are no significant violations or delays due to overloads. There are 14 observers from the Far Eastern branches of VNIRO on the fishing vessels.
