The modern fishing vessel Resolute will operate in the North Sea fishing grounds.

Wärtsilä will design a modern trawler for a Scottish shipowner

  (FINLAND, 1/22/2019)

The technology group Wärtsilä will provide the ship design, the main engine and other propulsion equipment for a new state-of-the-art fishing vessel, commissioned by a Scottish shipowner.

The vessel will be built by Balenciaga shipyard, in Spain, for Castlehill, a company based in Fraserburgh, Scotland.

The vessel, which will be called Resolute, will be the 69.8 metres long. It will replace an existing trawler of the same name in the owner’s fleet and it will operate in the fishing grounds of the North Sea.

According to Wärtsilä, the state-of-the-art modern vessel will provide high efficiency and will represent the ultimate in boat design for the purposes of the fishing industry.

“We have earlier worked closely with both Castlehill and the Balenciaga yard, and we are pleased to be cooperating with them again on this benchmark project,” said Riku-Pekka Hägg, Director, Ship Design, Wärtsilä Marine. “Wärtsilä’s Smart Marine vision supports the development of efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions, and this ship will certainly meet those criteria,” he added.

For his part, owner Georg West said: “Wärtsilä has tremendous experience and an excellent track record in producing advanced fishing vessel designs, and we are confident that this latest design will meet our expectations. We also appreciate Wärtsilä’s positive cooperation during the concept development phase of this project."

Wärtsilä 32 is the most favored engine of its size. In auxiliary electric production, the Wärtsilä 32 is widely utilized in all vessel categories where high auxiliary load is needed. The new, upgraded version is available with an increased power output of 580 kW per cylinder at 750 rpm (50 Hz version)

In addition to the ship design and relevant documentation, Wärtsilä will also supply a Wärtsilä 32 main engine, as well as the gear, shaft line, stern tube and combined pitch propeller (CPP).

Wärtsilä Controllable Pitch (WCP) propeller systems deliver excellent performance and efficiency, while minimizing noise and vibration levels. A customised propulsion system tailored according to customer requirements

Under a separate agreement, the company will also develop a concept that can be used for the owner’s application for an extended fishing quota.

Wärtsilä is a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets and has operations in over 200 locations in more than 80 countries around the world.
