Caladero closes Cádiz plant
(SPAIN, 8/24/2017)
The company Caladero SL has decided to close its Cadiz plant, mainly dedicated to mussel and prawn packaging as well as to transferring that production to the central headquarters in Zaragoza, core of the main activity.
The company, which is inter-supplier of the supermarket chain Mercadona, explained that this decision is part of a "reorganization process to reinforce its efficiency and competitiveness" as well as “to generate synergies in its logistics activity.”
The staff, made up of about 80 employees, is offered to continue working in the plant in Aragon or to join Mercadona supermarkets in Cadiz.
The company, which is owned by Mercadona Caladero SL and is engaged in the production and distribution of fresh fish packaged in protective atmosphere, had begun operating in the free zone of Cadiz in 2009.
In 2016, Caladero SL billed more than EUR 195 million, 17 per cent more than the previous year, although it closed with a million in losses compared to the EUR 2.7 million profits it obtained in 2015, Levante reported.
The transfer of the activity from the plant in Cadiz to that in Zaragoza will take place from next October.
