Open Blue Sea Farms Achieves Prestigious Aquaculture Assurance Standard

  (UNITED STATES, 11/13/2014)

Open Blue Sea Farms, the single largest supplier of fresh cobia (Rachycentron canadum) to the United States and the largest deep water open-ocean farm in the world has achieved the prestigious GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Standard, following a comprehensive assessment of their business by Quality Certification Services (QCS) an independent accredited certification body.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance Standard – Aquaculture Version 4 is a pre-farm gate standard that covers the whole production process of the certified product from the hatchery until the point of harvest and packing.

Open Blue Cobia is free of contaminants and rich in Omega-3s; it is carefully cultivated in deep pristine ocean waters and is not genetically engineered in any way.

“Meeting the requirements of GLOBALG.A.P. is in line with our strategy to provide our customers with safe, healthy and exceptional quality cobia products from Panama,” said Brian O’Hanlon, Founder of Open Blue. “Our operations are based on meeting a high standard and we are committed to responsible practices that support environmental and social responsibility across every aspect of our business.”

Open Blue is currently the single largest supplier of fresh cobia to the US and recently began exporting to Europe.

Open Blue is the culmination of nearly a decade of cutting-edge investigative research on deep ocean aquaculture in collaboration with the world’s leading scientific laboratories and universities. Open Blue Cobia are raised from eggs in an integrated farming platform and the company can provide complete traceability into the life of each fish.
