The new vessel belongs, the Kyowa Suisan Group (NISSUI)
Nissui's new ship 'Daihachi Koyo Maru' for Tokai Fisheries
(JAPAN, 9/11/2024)
A subsidiary of Kyowa Suisan, a Nissui Group company, sets out on its first fishing expedition
Tokai Fisheries Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Hiroshi Hashizu, Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyowa Suisan Co., Ltd. (Representative Director: Hiroshi Hashizu, Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture), a group company of Nissui Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and President: Shingo Hamada, Minato Ward, Tokyo), which operates a purse seine fishing business, built a new inshore purse seine vessel, the "Daihachi Koyo Maru," and departed from Sakaiminato on September 6, 2024.
In addition to the Daihachi Koyo Maru Fleet, to which the new vessel belongs, the Kyowa Suisan Group also owns the Daihachi Koyo Maru Fleet and the Daiichi Koyo Maru Fleet, with the three fleets holding ministerial permits for five sea areas (Northern Pacific Ocean, Northern Sea of Japan, Central Sea of Japan, Western Sea of Japan, and East Yellow Sea), and fishing for sardines, horse mackerel, mackerel, bluefin tuna, yellowtail, and other fish in the Sea of Japan as their main fishing ground.
he replacement vessel is 26 years old, and has been facing problems such as increasing repair costs due to age, longer repair periods due to a shortage of parts for equipment, and the resulting risk of downtime. The construction of this new vessel will resolve these issues, and the introduction of cutting-edge equipment and innovative design will enable safe and efficient operation while also being environmentally friendly.
■Features of the Daihachi Koyo Maru①
The main engine, hull and equipment have been made about 10% lighter, increasing the hull's stability and reserve buoyancy, greatly improving safety during operation and navigation.
② The voyage speed has been increased by about 20% compared to the previous vessel, aiming to expand fishing opportunities by expanding the fish search range and shortening the movement between fishing grounds.
③ The improved capabilities of the fishing equipment installed on board have increased the fish detection ability and operation speed, greatly increasing the fishing capacity compared to the previous vessel.
④ The fifth Caterpillar main engine has been adopted for a fishing vessel owned by the company group, and by improving the compatibility of spare parts within the company group, it has been possible to shorten repair periods and reduce the risk of non-operation.
⑤ The main engine meets the secondary regulations (*2) of the MARPOL Convention (*1) and has reduced nitrogen oxide emissions.
Nissui's long-term vision for 2030, "Good Foods 2030," aims to create corporate value through sustainability management, and in the marine products business, it lists strengthening access to resources as a priority.
The vessel is based at the port of Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture
In Japan's fishing industry, addressing sustainability issues such as resource management and environmental considerations is an urgent issue. As various resource management measures such as total volume management of fish catch species and individual fleet allocations are implemented, the company has been fully utilizing the allocated fishing quota while complying with these. This renewal to a new vessel will contribute to improving fishing capabilities with a focus on sustainability, as well as strengthening access to marine products in the waters around Japan.
The Nissui Group will continue to deliver new "food" through a value chain that enables maximizing the value of resources.
