An Exceptional Natural Habitat for Tilapia
(ZIMBABWE, 1/19/2011)
Lake Harvest is the largest fish producer in Africa. The company's tilapia fish farms are situated within a National Park on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe – Africa’s inland sea of pristine water. This lake is protected from heavy industry, giving Lake Harvest’s fish the benefit of a natural habitat, surrounded by spectacular scenery and wildlife.

Lake Harvest ensures the high quality of its fish through a combination of sustainable farming techniques and state of the art equipment. The company has a complete control of the process from feed ingredients and breeding through to delivery of the delicious fish fillets.
Lake Harvest offers unrivalled traceability and consistent food security. Lake Harvest’s fish has no additives, preservatives, GMOs or antibiotics.

| The feed used for the tilapia is cereal based and contains no GMO crops |
The company feeds its fish a balanced, almost wholly vegetarian, diet that is made on site under its own supervision. The small proportion of fishmeal is sourced from a sustainable fishery. Lake Harvest intends to completely phase out the fishmeal and this is currently being researched.
Lake Harvest leads the way in tropical cage culture technology and they design and make all its own cages. All fish waste is used to feed the local crocodile farm.
Lake Harvest chose Lake Kariba for its exceptional water quality and natural habitat for tilapia. The lake is fed from the spectacular Victoria Falls and has neither industries nor significant populations that could possibly cause contamination.

| Kariba is unique, a place of outstanding beauty, with its lake setting and the majestic backdrop of mountains |
The lake, one of the world’s largest man-made reservoirs, is over 220 kilometres long and up to 40 kilometres in width. It covers an area of 5,580 square kilometres and its storage capacity is an immense 185 cubic kilometres. The average depth of the lake is 29 metres.
Before Lake Kariba was filled, the existing vegetation was burned, creating a thick layer of fertile soil on land that would become the lake bed. As a result the ecology of Lake Kariba is vibrant.
Lake Harvest can think of no better place to be based. Lake Harvest aims to achieve 20,000 tonnes of tilapia production per annum by the end 2014 at Lake Kariba.
