The new production line at Wuxi is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2027

BioMar to Double Production Capacity in China with Major Expansion in Wuxi

  (DENMARK, 2/13/2026)

New production line will add 50,000 tonnes and unlock advanced feed solutions for emerging high-end species

BioMar Group has announced a significant expansion of its production facility in Wuxi, China, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Chinese aquaculture market. In partnership with joint venture partner Tongwei, the company will add a second production line at the Wuxi plant during 2026, effectively doubling the site’s capacity and enabling entry into new high-value market segments.

The expansion will increase Wuxi’s annual capacity by 50,000 tonnes, supporting both rising demand and the development of advanced specialty feeds. The new line will allow BioMar to produce high-performance nursery feeds for early growth stages and innovative feed solutions for premium species.

Currently, the Wuxi facility primarily supplies feed for high-end species including trout, salmon, sturgeon, largemouth bass, turbot, and yellow croaker. With the addition of new technological capabilities, the plant will expand into feeds for species such as Japanese eel, grouper, and mandarin fish, as well as advanced nursery products tailored for optimized early-stage development.

Strengthening BioMar’s Footprint in China

BioMar has operated in China since 2016, working closely with Tongwei to establish a strong position in the high-value aquaculture segment. The Wuxi plant was developed as a greenfield project, built around BioMar’s core manufacturing standards and technologies.

In addition, the joint venture incorporated the Zhuhai (Haiwei) facility, originally owned by Tongwei, which has successfully served premium species such as seabass and snakehead.

Today, the two facilities together hold a combined annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes. However, increasing demand across BioMar’s product portfolio has begun to constrain further growth, prompting the decision to expand operations in Wuxi.

“In recent years, we have developed a substantial business presence in China, where we collaborate with customers to introduce innovative feed solutions grounded in BioMar’s research and global experience with high-value species and sustainable aquaculture nutrition,” said Carlos Diaz, CEO of BioMar Group.

“Our goal is to elevate this success by expanding the production capacity in Wuxi by 50,000 tonnes, while integrating advanced technological capabilities into our production facility.”

Part of a Broader Global Growth Strategy

The Wuxi expansion forms part of BioMar’s wider global growth strategy, which emphasizes close collaboration with customers and partners in emerging markets. Over the past decade, the company has expanded production and business operations into new geographies including China, Ecuador, Australia, Iceland, and Vietnam.

Beyond geographic expansion, BioMar has diversified into new business areas such as intelligent feeding technologies, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable aquaculture nutrition.

“We have built a solid model for expanding the business — ambitious in our growth aspirations while ensuring each step into new markets is carefully nurtured and integrated into the BioMar business model,” said Carlos Diaz.

“This is clearly reflected in our financial results, where investments have historically been followed by growth in volumes and earnings, creating a strong global business for BioMar.”

The new production line at Wuxi is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2027, positioning BioMar to capture new opportunities in China’s rapidly evolving aquaculture sector.
