In 2023 there was a total of 4 million 102 thousand tons of landings, registering a slight decrease of 3% compared to 2022, due to the 5% drop in landings in the artisanal sector and 1% in the aquaculture sector. The figure was announced with the publication of the 2023 Fisheries and Aquaculture Statistical Yearbook, a publication through which the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) makes the country's official sectoral statistics available to citizens.

The National Director of Sernapesca, Soledad Tapia Almonacid, indicated in this regard: “I highlight the relevance of being able to provide citizens with clear, understandable, very timely, and accessible information. With this, we strengthen the trust of our citizens, as well as our sector users, through transparency, adding technology, thanks to this interactive platform created with Data Observatory."

Among other relevant figures, it can be mentioned that the participation of the different subsectors in the total landing is led by the artisanal fishing sector with 1 million 617 thousand tons corresponding to 39%, followed by the aquaculture sector with 1 million 502 thousand tons corresponding 37% and finally by the industrial fishing sector with 982 thousand tons corresponding to 24% of the total.

The Biobío region is the one that leads the country in landings, concentrating 34% of the national total, specifically with 71% of industrial landings and 44% of artisanal landings. Regarding harvests from aquaculture centers, the Los Lagos region leads this sector with 57% of the total harvests recorded in 2023.

In relation to the harvests of Management Areas, a decrease was observed compared to 2022 of 43%, a difference that is mainly due to the decrease in the extraction of the species Huiro negro or chascón and Huiro palo with a total of 64,115 tons for the year 2022 and only with 34,738 tons for the year 2023.

The main production lines were Flour, Frozen and Chilled, which concentrated 88% of the raw materials and 90% of the total production. During the period, the relative increase in Refrigerated Cooling lines draws attention, to which 23% of raw materials are destined, generating 36% of total production.
