Parlevliet and Van der Plas invest in French tuna company
(NETHERLANDS, 7/4/2016)
Dutch pelagic and demersal fisheries company Parlevliet & Van der Plas (P&P) complete negotiations to invest in French tuna company Française du Thon Océanique (CFTO).
P&P, among the largest pelagic and demersal fisheries groups in the world, and the CFTO have completed negotiations and due diligence for P&P to acquire CFTO. This follows the announcement in May 2016 that both companies had agreed on exclusive negotiations.
This acquisition brings together two of Europe’s flagship fishing companies, which are part of European fisheries heritage and have strong family roots. P&P and CFTO share the same ethos of long-term corporate goals, commitment to sustainable fishing and full respect for their staff, partners and clients around the world.
With this acquisition, P&P is committing itself to consolidating and strengthening CFTO’s fleet, one that is renowned for its excellence, as well as maintaining its Brittany roots. CFTO’s 14 vessels fishing in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans will continue to operate under the French flag and strictly abide by European fishing regulations as well as the relevant ICCAT and IOTC provisions. This acquisition will have no impact on employment: beyond the change in leadership mentioned above, CFTO’s staffing will remain unchanged.
P&P will also continue to invest in CFTO’s fleet as well as in the shore operations managed by CFTO.
The Parlevliet and Van der Plas families have owned and managed P&P for over 60 years. They look forward to this new chapter in the history of their company and of CFTO, as well as the synergies this acquisition will offer both companies.
