Vilsund Blue Introduces X-Ray Scanner

  (DENMARK, 4/24/2012)

Vilsund Blue is the first producer of mussel products in the world to have an x-ray scanner connected to their production line.

This new piece of equipment is the latest improvement in the company’s continuing efforts to maintain the world’s best production of quality mussels.

The new X-ray scanner will eliminate all pieces of shell and other foreign substances in the mussel meat, which will heighten the experience of eating the mussels from Vilsund Blue.

The live mussels are cleaned, desanded and packed at the factory in Løgstør

Vilsund Blue’s main products are wild caught Blue Shell Mussels (Mytilus Edulis) and Flat Oysters (Osterea Edulis). The mussels and oysters are caught in the Limfjord in the northern part of Jutland.

The boats supplying Vilsund Blue were the first mussel fishery in the world to receive the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for sustainable fishery in 2010. These fishing vessels land their catch at the small harbours around the fjord and then are transported to the company’s modern cleaning facility at the seaside in Nykøbing Mors.

Twenty-seven fishing vessels land their catch at the factories in Nykøbing Mors and Aggersund

After washed and cleaned, the mussels are sent to the cooking facilities in Food Parken or to the preserve factory at Ørodde.

The fresh factory in Aggersund handles all aspects of sales, production and distribution of fresh mussels and oysters within the Vilsund group. At this state of the art production plant the mussels and oysters are cleaned, desanded and packed for distribution to customers in Denmark, Scandinavia, Germany, Benelux, France and Spain.

The timespan between order placement and delivery of Vilsund Blue fresh mussels is less than 24 hours
