Sernapesca confirms ISA in Aysen region
(CHILE, 2/24/2015)
The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA) reports that Mentas 2 centre of Salmones Cupquelan S.A. has been categorized as an Other HPR Confirmed centre, as established by the ISA Surveillance and Control Programme.
"The case has been confirmed, following the detection of the virus in a verification sampling carried out by the Service’s inspectors," explains Marcela Lara, Deputy Director (S) of SERNAPESCA Aquaculture.
Mentas 2 centre is located in Cupquelan fjord, south of the Aysen region. In accordance with what was informed by the authority, the variant of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) virus detected corresponded to HPR 3, the same one that affected Ballenas 4 centre in October 2014, which is located in the same area (ACS 25 A).
SERNAPESCA emphasized that it will maintain official monitoring of Mentas 2 centre and other farms in the area. Furthermore, it will strengthen the supervision of bio-security measures associated to the management of the centre, as established by the ISA Surveillance and Control Programme maintained by the institution.
