Ling roe, MSC certified, extra approximate weight container 180 g Garre brand

El Corte Inglés obtains the MSC and ASC seals, which ensure that its fresh fish is of sustainable origin

  (SPAIN, 6/27/2023)
  • The company thus becomes the first retail distribution company in Spain to certify its fishmongers with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).
  • The Chain of Custody standard ensures that any product on sale in El Corte Inglés fishmongers with the blue MSC or green ASC seal comes from a sustainable fishery or from a responsible farm.
  • In 2022, El Corte Inglés obtained the Mares para Siempre award, which recognizes the support of El Corte Inglés to the MSC program in Spain since it began activity in Spain in 2011, as well as its commitment to sustainable fishing through the MSC seal, both in Own brand and manufacturer's brand.
Madrid - El Corte Inglés has obtained the MSC and ASC certifications for its fresh fish chain of custody, which covers 184 fresh counters and two logistics platforms. These seals guarantee that the indicated products that the company offers for sale come from certified fisheries (MSC) or certified aquaculture farms (ASC), and that their origin is certified by MSC and/or ASC, and have been duly identified and separated. from the rest of the products. The company's objective is to progressively expand the number of MSC and ASC references for sale, since the reception by customers has been very good.

El Corte Inglés is the first retail distribution company in Spain to certify its fishmongers with MSC and ASC. This milestone reinforces its commitment to protect marine resources and ensure their long-term durability. The MSC Blue Seal is only awarded to wild-caught fish or shellfish from certified fisheries based on 25 scientific indicators of sustainable fishing. For its part, the ASC green seal recognizes responsibly farmed seafood. Throughout the entire supply chain, certified fish and shellfish are kept separate from other non-certified products. It is clearly labeled so that its origin can be traced back to a certified sustainable fishery or responsible farm.

In addition to fresh fish products, El Corte Inglés also offers frozen, canned, pre-cooked, or any type of preparation that have both seals of marine origin, thus expanding to all seafood products from sustainable origin that can be found in its establishments.

In line with its commitment to sustainable fishing, El Corte Inglés received in 2022 the Mares Para Siempre Award in the MSC Sustainable Fishing Trajectory category, an award granted for its work in sustainable fishing both in its own brand and in manufacturer's brands. This recognizes the company's support for the MSC program in Spain since its inception in 2011, as well as its commitment to responsible and sustainable fishing through the MSC blue seal, both in its own brand and in the manufacturer's brand. An award that is also a thank you for the effort that El Corte Inglés has made to publicize the implications of this certification for the planet.

MSC and ASC are standards for sustainable fishing and aquaculture, through a certification and eco-labelling program. Fisheries that wish to demonstrate that they are well managed and sustainable are assessed by a team of experts (independent of the fishery and MSC or ASC) against the scientific basis of the standard, in a public and participatory process involving all interested parties. Seafood products can display the blue MSC or green ASC seal only if this fish comes from a certified sustainable fishery or certified responsible farm, and/or if the different operators in the supply chain also have a corresponding supply chain. custody according to MSC standards.

This action is part of El Corte Inglés's commitment to ties with society and in the spirit of closeness that it maintains with the concerns of citizens, with special attention and sensitivity towards the environment and sustainability.
