Europe’s rebound from the coronavirus pandemic is creating widespread supply-side frictions as companies struggle to find enough workers or materials to meet rising demand.

According to a report in the Financial Times, increased economic activity after coronavirus restrictions were eased across Europe earlier this year have produced a “very high workload for drivers and dispatchers, which in turn leads to dissatisfaction and resignations.”

Chuck Bundrant, a true legend in the Alaska seafood industry, passed away October 17th at home surrounded by his family and friends. He was 79. "We grieve the passing of our founder while cherishing Chuck Bundrant’s immense vision, values and commitment. We are committed to honoring Chuck’s legacy and building on the incredible company he founded and lifting the industry he loved", says Trident Seafoods in their Web page.

The story of Chuck Bundrant and Trident Seafoods is more than a business biography. Its a tale of true grit, salt air, and danger. The stories are told by those who pioneered the fisheries, bucked the political tides, built the Alaska Seafood Industry, and literally risked their lives to do it!

Bermeo Tuna World Capital, the public-private initiative of the tuna industry that promotes global sustainable management based on scientific knowledge and the leadership of good practices, has awarded the Galician consultancy Sinerxia Plus the implementation of the master plan for the construction of its Tuna International Center. The contract contemplates the design of a physical and conceptual space aimed at being the headquarters or meeting space for all the agents that are part of the tuna value chain.

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) had proposed at the end of June to set the quota for 2022 at 708,840 tonnes, instead of 885,600 this year. Following online negotiations, the Russian-Norwegian Joint Fisheries Commission, which manages the Barents Sea, agreed to follow this advice, which will reduce the supply of whitefish on world markets by almost 180,000 tonnes.

With the allocation keys unchanged, Norway will be able to acquire 321,605 tonnes of cod from the world's largest cod stock.

Last Thursday, October 14, the president of SalmonChile, Arturo Clément, together with the general manager of the Technological Institute of Salmon (Intesal), Esteban Ramírez, presented the results of the VI Sustainability Report of the union, highlighting -among other aspects- that 2020 was the year with the lowest use of antibiotics per ton harvested since this report began, with 298 grams per thousand kilos, which represents a decrease of 15% compared to 2019 and a contribution to reducing the risks associated with antimicrobial resistance RAM.

Dutch on-land fish farmer The Kingfish Company has announced a partnership with European retailer Conad, which has more than 3,300 outlets, primarily in Italy.

The Kingfish Company said the deal makes its yellowtail kingfish, known as ricciola in Italy, widely available in Italy with immediate effect.

The Russian government harbours plans to nearly double domestic salmon production in the next eight years, and is encouraging businesses to open farms in new regions.

According to estimates from the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries, Rosrybolovstvo, in 2020, the country’s farmers produced 116,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon and trout, up 27.5 per cent compared to the previous year. Atlantic salmon and trout accounted for 30 per cent of the total Russian aquaculture production last year, compared to only 5 per cent in 2014.

The Paper states that the mackerel situation has entered into “very turbulent waters” this year following Brexit.
