Other Media | SalmonBusiness: New Norwegian government may signal a new aquaculture policy

NORWAY
Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Clean-up and clarifications about licenses are clearly on the table of the new Minister of Fisheries.

It was a murky sort of victory for the red-green coalition. Yesterday’s election night was quickly decided. After eight years as Prime Minister, Erna Solberg (Conservative) will be replaced. Jonas Gahr Støre (Labour Party) is the frontman for what will be – by all accounts – a majority government consisting of the Labour Party, Centre Party and Socialist Left Party (SV).

The board of the Shetland Shellfish Management Organisation (SSMO), which is legally obliged to manage Shetland’s commercial inshore shellfish fisheries in a sustainable way, has condemned a “tiny minority” of individuals for trying to undermine its activities.

Other Media | Industrias Pesqueras: The industry conspires so that canned tuna ceases to be a commodity after the pandemic

SPAIN
Wednesday, September 15, 2021

The world tuna industry, gathered at 90% in Vigo within the framework of the 10th edition of the World Tuna Conference organized by Anfaco-Cecopesca, considers that the time has come for this product to stop being a "commodity" on the shelves from supermarkets. The sector renews its objective, already set at the 2019 conference, and considers that the end of the pandemic should bring this product to a new status in the markets. It is necessary to innovate, look for new consumption opportunities, commercial proposals and explore markets to improve the valuation of a premium raw material whose demand soared as a result of COVID, but whose value in the market is stagnating.

SPAIN
Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Aquaculture bluefin tuna already has its first gastronomic fair, Cartagenasia, thanks to the APROMAR initiative that has had the support of funds from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the European Union, and the collaboration of the Cartagena City Council, the Embassy of Japan and the Ricardo Fuentes Group.

Talking about bluefin tuna is talking about the close connection that exists with Japanese culture. For this reason, within the framework of this first fair, which will take place from September 16 to 19 at the Batel in Cartagena, there will be, according to the promoters of Cartagenasia, “a trip to Japan through the 5 senses”.

The results of this work, which have been published in the scientific journal Science of the Total Environment, show that microplastics (those of less than 5 millimeters), mostly fibers and sheets of paint, are the most frequent.

The Vigo estuary is known for its important industry related to marine activities (fishing, shellfish farming, shipyards and tourism).
