Damen’s policy of building hulls for stock has made possible delivery of a new service vessel for Inverlussa Marine Services in only a few months.
The contract for the new Patricia Matheson for Inverlussa Marine Services was signed in October last year and delivery of the Multi Cat 1908 has taken place only seven months later.
Based on the Isle of Mull, Inverlussa Marine Services will operate Patricia Matheson in the aquaculture industry to carry out a diverse range of tasks including grid inspections, anchor-handling and equipment towage.
Inverlussa Marine Service is one of Scotland’s leading workboat companies, supplying vessels to service contracts for the offshore wind and fish-farming sectors throughout the UK and Europe.

China has announced its annual fishing ban policy for Chinese-flagged vessels on the high seas. In this way, all the fishing vessels of the Asian country that operate on the high seas, except the tuna seiners and longliners, cannot fish in certain designated areas. According to the China Fisheries Journal report, the measure affects 70 companies with around 1,500 fishing vessels, which have squid among their target species.

A report from the European Marketing Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EUMOFA) has shown that, while production has risen 60% over the past five years, salmon and other finfish have played a decreasing role in the sector.
Mussel production (41,936 tonnes) drove the significant increase, accounting for more than half of the region’s total organic aquaculture production.

In the first six months of 2022, Mediterranean fish farmer Cromaris sold 6,971 tons of fresh fish equivalent, which is an increase of 26%, compared to the first six months of the previous year. A 29% increase in quantity growth was achieved in export markets, mostly due to strong growth in Italian and Spanish markets. Cromaris’ share in earnings from selling on international markets has remained high – 89% of quantity sales and the same amount of sales revenue.
Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) specialist Billund Aquaculture’s Danish and Norwegian operations have become separate companies with separate owners.
Aquaculture investor Broodstock Capital has sold its majority holding in Billund to the company’s Danish founders, the Sørensen family, but retains a 75% stake in Billund Aquaculture Norway.

Will Norway’s astonishing salmon export boom come to an end – or at least a temporary end – over the next couple of months?
This is the question being asked after fresh salmon prices fell by more than 8% in the past week, according to the latest figures from Statistics Norway.
They are now at a level not seen since the start of the start of the year when the market was starting to stabilise after Covid.

The Global Seafood Alliance has announced the opening – for 60 days until October 3 – to receive comments on BAP's Vanguard Standard for Sustainable Food Ingredients. In this regard, it recalls that currently, feed mills find it difficult to meet sustainability objectives due to the limited availability of certified ingredients, in particular those of plant origin. “This new standard will encourage feed mills to dedicate a portion of their production to meeting the demand for feed with the highest sustainability credentials,” explains GSA.
Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD, today announced the opening of the second call for applications to the Brexit Adjustment: Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme 2022-2023.
The Scheme funds publicly owned marine infrastructure and is being funding under the EU Brexit Adjustment Reserve (BAR). In April, under the first call of the Scheme, Minister McConalogue announced approval for 110 projects around the Irish coast.

The Kingfish Company has become the first fish farmer in Europe to successfully complete a pilot of the new “Raised Without Antibiotics” Standard.
The company produces yellowtail kingfish at its RAS (recirculating aquaculture system) in Zeeland, in the Netherlands, through its subsidiary Kingfish Zeeland.
