Withstanding further rate increases is "unfeasible." This is the message that the Argentine fishing sector, represented by the Argentine Patagonian Chamber of Fishing Industries (CAPIP), the Chubut Yellow Fleet Chamber (CAFACH), the Argentine Chamber of Fishing Vessel Owners and Freezers (CAPECA), and the Argentine Fishing Companies Council (CEPA), have conveyed to the sector linked to the Chamber of Transport.

The Vigo fishing sector defends the environmental and social sustainability of its fleet in the Southwest Atlantic.
Vigo—In relation to the information campaign initiated by the NGO EJF regarding cephalopod fisheries in the Southwest Atlantic, ARVIwould like to state that the fleets of Spanish companies, with both Spanish and Southwest Atlantic area country flags, operate respectfully with regard to current environmental and social measures.
ARVI agrees on the need for the EU to adopt the necessary measures to effectively prevent the entry of fisheries products obtained through forced labor and poor environmental practices, which in the case of the Southwest Atlantic are those caught by fleets with Asian capital operating in the area.
In addition, and as it has been proposing for several years, ARVI is fully in favor of taking the necessary steps in the Southwest Atlantic to create a Regional Fisheries Organization that can sustainably manage all fishing activity, reaching the levels of those deployed by the fleets represented in ARVI.
Sales of tinned fish in the U.S. continue to enjoy steady growth, partly thanks to ongoing social media trends that are helping to grow Americans’ awareness of the value and quality of the product.
One of the many suppliers benefitting from the growth of sustainable, premium tinned seafood is Dover, New Hampshire, U.S.A.-based EcoFish, which owns the Freshé and Henry & Lisa’s Natural Seafood brands.
EcoFish Founder and President Henry Lovejoy told SeafoodSource that the firm’s success stems from its original goal of bringing “European-quality” tinned seafood to U.S. shores.

Scottish salmon farmers cut antibiotic use to record low.
Scottish salmon farmers have reduced antibiotic use to the lowest level on record, according to new figures published by trade body Salmon Scotland.
Usage fell to 5.1mg per kilo in 2024, down 79 per cent from 24.8mg per kilo the previous year. The sector first began publishing antibiotic data in 2017, when usage stood at 16.1mg per kilo.
Only eight per cent of farms required antibiotic treatment in 2024, including 7.1 per cent of seawater sites and 10.6 per cent of freshwater sites.
The decline follows more than £1 billion of investment in fish health initiatives, covering veterinary care, technology and stock management.

Mowi Canada East reports several incidents of mass mortalities at its facilities in the province
Mowi Canada East has reported an “abnormal mortality event exceeding ten percent of the stocking” at three locations on Newfoundland’s south coast, affecting approximately 1.7 million Atlantic salmon at Harvey Hill East, Harvey Hill South and Broad Cove in Harbour Breton Bay, according to SalmonBusiness. The reports are dated August 31.
Communications director Ola Helge Hjetland at Mowi told Fish Farming Expert's Norwegian sister site, Kyst.no, that the number of dead fish is about 400,000.

Within the framework of the "Joint Triangular Cooperation Fund Chile-European Union," the Aquaculture Research Division of the Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP) is leading a project that seeks to optimize freshwater fish aquaculture, with an emphasis on trout, to strengthen food security in Guatemala
The main goal is to implement a specialized trout roe incubation room at the facilities of the Center for Marine Studies (CEMA) of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala (USAC). IFOP professionals, Carolina Rösner and Mario Rivas, conducted an on-site assessment, identifying the need for specialized equipment to cool the water, as the natural temperature of 23 °C is higher than the optimal level for trout incubation.
Additionally, the team visited local trout farms in Nueva San Catarina Ixtahuacan, Sololá, to understand the main challenges faced by Guatemalan producers.
The project also includes a training session in Chile for six Guatemalan professionals—teachers and producers—in October. This training will take place at the IFOP's Hueihue Mariculture Center. Dissemination and communication activities are planned for December in Guatemala. The project, which has a duration of six months, is scheduled to conclude in December 2025.

Innovasea is collaborating with Forever Young Aquaponics to develop two aquaponics facilities integrated with recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in the United States.
Forever Young Aquaponics is an initiative of the Andrew J. Young Foundation—founded by civil rights leader and close ally of Martin Luther King Jr., Andrew Young. The projects are located in Colorado and Georgia and benefited from Innovasea's equipment and design support throughout the process.
Aquaponics is a sustainable agricultural practice that combines aquaculture with hydroponics—growing plants without soil—to create a symbiotic and mutually beneficial system.

Glasgow’s Prestwick Airport has launched a Scotland to China seafood export route.
The new service should help boost salmon exports to a country which is developing a huge appetite for the pink fish.
It follows a one million pound investment in new equipment and the creation of a dedicated cool chain team.
The airport has invested in high-volume metal detectors, temperature exposure and tracking systems, and four chillers (87 tonne capacity) in a dedicated facility to handle seafood exports to China and mainland Europe.
