In an unexpected turn in the conflict paralyzing Argentina's fishing industry, Fernando Álvarez, president of Conarpesa, has publicly disclosed his company's financial balance sheet, justifying his decision to keep his vessels docked. Álvarez asserted that Conarpesa incurred losses of between $14 and $15 million USD, unequivocally stating: "I'm not crazy enough to go out and lose money."

According to statements made to Mar y Pesca Noticias Patagonicas, Álvarez expressed being"tired of hearing sailors and union secretaries say that we aren't losing money, that it's all just talk." The businessman, who typically does not disclose the company's financials, presented the figures to counter these claims, including criticisms of politicians who, he believes, underestimate the sector's difficult situation.
In a direct challenge, Álvarez urged the United Maritime Workers' Union (SOMU) to "show what they did with the 15 billion pesos they collected from the 4% retention from people."He concluded, "Only then can we begin to discuss," intensifying pressure amid the dispute.

Trident Aqua Services appoints Arild Aasmyr as CEO following merger launch.
Trident Aqua Services has appointed Arild Aasmyr as its new Chief Executive Officer, following the formal launch of the company in May 2025 after the merger of Aquaship, Intership and FSV Group.
Aasmyr previously led FSV Group for seven years, during which time he oversaw a period of growth and operational development. He now takes over as CEO of Trident, which operates more than 60 aquaculture vessels across three continents, employing over 1,000 staff.

Just when the Norwegian industry thought the market was improving, fresh salmon export prices have fallen back again.
Figures from Statistics Norway in week 25 show they dropped by 7.7% to NOK 76.33 per kilo which is not too far above total production costs.
Nevertheless, global demand for salmon remains strong. Statistics Norway said they totalled 22,332 tons, the highest export figure so far this year. It was also up by an impressive 20% on the previous week.

LNG Carrier Diverts Course to Aid Portuguese Mariners, All Reported in Good Health.
Dunkirk– Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen (NYK) announced today the successful rescue of 11 Portuguese crew members from a fishing vessel in distress in the Atlantic Ocean.
The rescue operation was carried out by an LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carrier managed by NYK LNG Shipmanagement, a subsidiary of the NYK Group. While en route to the port of Dunkirk, France, the vessel received a distress call from the fishing boat, which had sustained hull damage.

The LNG carrier immediately diverted to the scene, bringing all 11 individuals safely aboard. NYK confirmed that all rescued crew members are in good health and are expected to disembark in Dunkirk around June 26.
Though NYK did not disclose the name of the LNG carrier involved, AIS data from VesselsValue indicates the 2019-built, 180,000-cbm Bushu Maru is scheduled to arrive in Dunkirk on June 26, carrying cargo from the Freeport LNG terminal in the US. The "Sayaringo STaGE" type vessel is jointly owned by NYK and Jera.
NYK is a significant player in the global LNG carrier market, operating a fleet of 89 such vessels as of September last year. This swift and successful rescue highlights the critical role of commercial shipping in maritime safety.
Shipping Giant Temporarily Halted Calls to Israeli Port for Safety, Now Cautiously Reopens While Monitoring Strait of Hormuz.
COPENHAGEN – Maersk has reopened import cargo acceptance to the Port of Haifa (Israel) as of June 25, 2025, following a temporary suspension of vessel calls due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The Danish shipping line had halted operations for the safety of its crew and cargo.
In an advisory to customers, Maersk explained that the decision is based on"recent developments and the prospects of a cease-fire currently in place," though they continue to monitor the situation very closely. Export cargo acceptance and the full resumption of sailings to Haifa are expected once a lower safety risk is reconfirmed.
Operations at the Port of Ashdod are continuing under close watch. Maersk also confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz remains navigable, and its teams are developing case-by-case contingency plans to swiftly adapt to potential changes in the situation.
The company emphasizes its commitment to minimizing supply chain disruption and advises customers to join its ETA notification system for updates. Maersk reiterates that these decisions are purely operational, based on safety assessments, and do not constitute a political statement.

A water company has confirmed one of its treatment works was the source of pollution that killed thousands of fish in a Cornish river.
Pennon Group, which owns South West Water, said the pollution in St Austell River "occurred as a result of a delivery by a third party to our treatment works" in the Pentewan Valley.
The Environment Agency said potentially thousands of fish including trout, eels and lamprey were killed by liquid lime in the river, which is also known as the White River
The agency said on Tuesday its officers had taken samples of dead fish from the scene.
