• Mackerel Promotion: The event will feature raw mackerel (Scomber japonicust), supplied by the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative, incorporated into specialized culinary items like sushi rolls and rice pot dishes to appeal to younger consumers.

The initiative aims to relieve financial pressure on local fishermen facing elevated operational costs while broadening consumer access to domestic South Korean seafood products.

Cooperation targets production, trade and international market access

The 19-metre Ålfjord has been recovered and taken to a shipyard after its two crew members were forced to abandon the vessel near Ryvarden lighthouse, off Norway’s west coast.

Two crew members were rescued from the sea after the Norwegian wellboat Ålfjord lost propulsion and drifted ashore.

The incident occurred shortly after 17:00 on September 19 near Ryvarden lighthouse in Sveio.A Mayday alert was issued after the vessel lost propulsion and began drifting towards land. The two crew members put on survival suits before entering the water, according to Norway’s Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

UK seafood businesses are being invited to register their interest in joining the UK Pavilion at this year’s China Fisheries and Seafood Expo (CFSE).

Seafish and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) are again preparing to showcase the best of UK seafood to international buyers at the CFSE, which this year takes place from October 28-30 at the Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Qingdao.CFSE is the largest seafood trade show in Asia and one of the biggest in the world, while China is now one of the world’s largest buyers of Atlantic salmon.

A Mexican cooperative of bivalve mollusc farmers in Baja California Sur has become the first farming operation in Mexico to participate in an Aquaculture Improvement Project (AIP) run by sustainable aquaculture accreditation body the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).

Based in Bahía Magdalena, Baja California Sur, Bendito Mar is a cooperative dedicated to the regenerative cultivation of bivalve molluscs, including oysters, Catarina scallops, chocolate clams, and pen shell. The cooperative was established in 2018 with a commitment to creating a positive impact on the ecosystem and communities where it operates.

The armain organizations OPPC3, OPPF4, and OPNAPA, representing the Spanish distant-water and high-seas fishing fleets based in Vigo, have urgently requested the Government of Spain to activate the Special Register to stem the ongoing loss of vessels, employment, and production capacity under the national flag.

In a formal petition addressed to Luis Planas (Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) and Óscar Puente (Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility), the producers' organizations delivered an analytical report titled "Evolution and loss of productive capacity of the Spanish distant-water and high-seas fleet. Non-Spanish fishing grounds. Period 2010–2025". The document highlights that the departure or scrapping of each Spanish vessel directly undermines port activity, ancillary industries, and direct and indirect jobs across Spain.

K-pop meets Korean seafood in a new export push
