With this project, ARVI promotes a more sustainable fishing sector through the development and validation of an intelligent energy management system
ARVI's 'Efficient Ship' project continues to advance with the installation of the necessary equipment on board
(SPAIN, 10/16/2022)
The project whose objective is to improve management efficiency energy on board freezer ships is at an important moment when implementing its design on the ship.
The project "Improving Energy Efficiency in the Spanish Fishing Fleet through an Intelligent System for Refrigerating Energy Management in Ships" continues its course, led by the Cooperative of Fishing Owners of the Port of Vigo (ARVI). The consortium they complete the Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Technological Center Foundation (EnergyLab) and the Technological Telecommunications Center Foundation of Galicia (GRADIANT). This is a project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the call that is included in the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain, financed with the Next Generation EU Funds, within the framework of Royal Decree 854/2021.
Within the framework of the project, the On-Board Refrigeration Energy Management System (SGEF-AB) is developed, for which an ARVI freezer trawler is equipped with a series of technological improvements that allow knowing in real time a series of parameters on the consumption of the boat. Once the information is known and analyzed, action can be taken to reduce GHG emissions and operating costs.
After a preliminary analysis of the fleet, as well as studying what its needs are, it is contrasted with the information available from the ship where the implementation of the new system is carried out. Once the key points have been defined, and the general structure of the new system, it begins with the management of the purchase of sensors and other equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the proposed design.
With the ship on land, the necessary preparatory work for its installation begins. When the ship leaves in November, the sensors and devices will have been installed ready for use. In addition, the crew will have been trained to validate the use of the equipment in real conditions.
With this project, ARVI promotes a more sustainable fishing sector through the development and validation of an intelligent energy efficiency management system in ships with refrigeration facilities on board that allows monitoring, control and decision-making from land.
