CONAPESCA will provide USD 58.9 million to fishermen and fish farmers
(MEXICO, 6/5/2019)
This was announced by the head of the organization, Raul Elenes Angulo, who said that the delivery will be made in a timely manner, completely unrelated to corruption schemes.
From June until mid-August, CONAPESCA will grant MXN 1.159 million (USD 58.9 million) to the country's producers, with the new criteria of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to prioritize the places and regions where people did not receive any kind of support from the government.
The commissioner recalled that the windows of the decentralized body of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) opened from April 1 of this year with the expectation that at least 50,000 producers would register, but the figure reached almost 110,000 applications at the close of the last day of May.
He also highlighted that during this time and process, the producers that signed up for the Fisheries and Aquaculture Productivity Promotion Program never presented money during the completion of their procedures and that CONAPESCA ruled out "prioritization", that is, only attending to those who arrived first place, and considering the beneficiaries as first and second producers.
He said that the main objective of the institution is to deliver resources as soon as possible during the months of June, July and part of August.
"We intend to disperse the majority of the 1,159 million pesos that we have budgeted for all the components and subcomponents of the program that CONAPESCA gives to the producers," he stated.

Elenes Angulo expects that the majority of producers in the country will be supported, and that they will receive their benefits in a clear and transparent manner as instructed by the Government of Mexico.
He clarified that the resources could increase, according to the needs of the sector, situation of which fishermen and fish farmers will be informed.
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Productivity Promotion Program is divided into five components: Promotion of Capitalization; Aquaculture Development; Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulation and Surveillance; Promotion of Consumption and Productive Fisheries and Aquaculture Packages.
