ISA outbreak on Grieg's site confirmed
(NORWAY, 1/3/2017)
The Norwegian Veterinary Institute (Veterinærinstituttet) has confirmed the outbreak of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA) at Kleppenes, Grieg Seafood's site in Hammerfest.
The centre has currently 1.3 million fish with an average weight of 0.985 kg.
The company informed that the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet) has ordered the harvesting and destruction of all its fish before 31 January 2017. A delegation of this body was in Kleppenes yesterday making an inspection.
Grieg Seafood Finnmark has started to implement a plan for harvesting/destruction of all fish at this site as soon as possible and feasible. Subsequently the site will be laid fallow and made ready for new smolt input in spring/summer 2017.
Preliminary estimates indicate that this will yield a negative one-off effect on Grieg's Q4 2016 accounts amounting to approximately NOK 25 M (USD 2,88 M).
Further preliminary estimates indicate that harvest volume for 2017 will be reduced by 3,000 tonnes.
For 2018, Grieg forsees that the reduced harvest volume early in the year will be offset by increased volume towards the end of the year due to new smolt input at the abovementioned site.
