QCS Obtains Approval to Conduct Add-On Module for Aquaculture

  (UNITED STATES, 9/14/2015)

Quality Certification Services (QCS) has announced its approval to conduct GLOBALG.A.P.’s Friend of the Sea (FoS) Add-On Module for Aquaculture. GLOBALG.A.P. certified aquaculture producers can now gain an additional consumer label for their products.

Aquaculture producers who successfully comply with GLOBALG.A.P.’s Integrated Farm Assurance Aquaculture Standard and with the additional criteria defined in the Friend of the Sea Add-On will be allowed to use a special label visible to consumers. The Friend of the Sea logo, consisting of both the Friend of the Sea consumer label and the GLOBALG.A.P. Number (GGN), may be printed on the product packaging at the point of sale.

Implementation of the new Friend of the Sea (FOS) Add-On Module for Aquaculture. Different scenarios for aquaculture producers.

Friend of the Sea is a non-profit non-governmental organization for the conservation of marine habitats by means of market incentives. Friend of the Sea has created a leading international certification project to certify and promote seafood and products from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. This consumer label follows the FAO - Guidelines for the Ecolabelling of Fish and Fishery Products from Marine Capture Fisheries.

The GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture Standard sets criteria for legal compliance, food safety, animal and workers welfare, and environmental and ecological care. It covers the entire production chain, from broodstock, seedlings and feed suppliers to farming, harvesting and processing. It acts as a practical manual for any aquaculture producer, ensuring food safety, minimal environmental impact and compliance with animal welfare and worker health and safety requirements.

Based in Gainesville, Florida, QCS offers the following certification options: Certified Organic, Certified Transitional, Certified Hormone/Antibiotic Free, Organic Aquaculture, GLOBALG.A.P. (several scopes), specific trade practices, aquaponics and Food Justice Certification, which will allow consumers to choose to support a more just agricultural system.
