New ISA virus case confirmed in Aysen
(CHILE, 8/13/2015)
The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA) has confirmed a new case of infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus in Aysen Region.
The discovery was made in the centre Ballenas 3, belonging to the company Salmones Cupquelan SA, located in the Association of Concessions (ACS) 25 A, in Estero Cupquelan.
The detection of a different HPR0 variant was conducted under surveillance by the company, and its sequencing showed that this was an HPR 3 variant.
"The centre Ballena 3 maintains a strict surveillance carried out by our veterinarians, for being within the zoning established in the fjord Cupquelan due to previous cases," stressed SERNAPESCA national director José Miguel Burgos.
This situation made the early detection of the virus possible as well as the rapid action of the affected company.
The cage in which the HPR 3 variant was detected has already been harvested, although they were no signs or mortality associated with the disease.
SERNAPESCA has already issued a resolution (No. 7219) establishing the zoning for this case. It defined infected area as the zone that is located five nautical miles around the centre Ballena 3 and the rest of the area covered by the ACS 25 A and 25 B as the surveillance zone.
