Leardini has become one of the largest fish suppliers in Brazil and currently exports to several countries in Europe, Asia and North America

Seafood for the Most Demanding Palates

  (BRAZIL, 1/16/2013)

In 1998, Mr. Attilio Leardini founded Leardini Pescados; in its first year of operation, the company sold only fresh fish to fishmongers, small wholesalers and informal fish sellers in the Itajaí region.

Today Leardini has its own fleet of refrigerated fishing vessels, own trucks and an industrial structure which assures the international quality standards of its products.

Leardini has become one of the largest fish suppliers in Brazil and currently exports to several countries in Europe, Asia and North America.

Leardini's state-off-the-art processing facilities

In the year 1995, the company started with the industrialization of frozen fish and launched the Leardini brand in the Brazilian market. It was the first fishing company to make direct sales to supermarkets, bringing more accessible prices to consumers.

In 1998, Leardini installed its industrial plant in Navegantes, which was considered the most modern facility in the region.

After the implementation of its HACCP quality assurance program, Leardini entered the international market and the first exported product was the scampi (a very common crustacean species of the Brazilian coast).

In 2000, Leardini acquired fishing boats with the purpose of improving the quality of the captured raw material, and in the same year, it started fishing monkfish, becoming one of the largest exporters of this species in the country. The company was also a pioneer in using trawler boats and fishing squid in Brazil, a species fished only in Argentina.

Between the years 2002 and 2003, Leardini began the export vannamei shrimp produced in Santa Catarina, consolidated itself as one of the largest seafood industries in the country. The company was the first Brazilian industry to export farm raised catfish and pioneered exports of tilapia harvested in SC.

In 2007 Leardini expands its refrigeration tunnels and inclusion of some Amazon fish species in the product mix.

With approximately 9,000 square meters of industrial space, the company has a production capacity of 24,000 tons/year and storage capacity of 36,000 tons/year.

Another important highlight is the acquisition of its own fishing fleet to guarantee the quality of the captured raw material. This fleet is composed of 8 vessels and 60 third-party vessels, which can unload over 30,000 tons/year.

The company has refrigerated boats with state-of-the-art technology for freezing fish when caught, allowing maintenance of a high level of freshness.

The road fleet is composed of 15 own trucks and 15 third-party trucks, with excellent performance in transportation of frozen products.

Leardini Pescados markets a wide range of seafood ready meals

Leardini is one of the few Brazilian companies to have an indoor covered dock allowing the simultaneous docking of several vessels. After selection, fish are immediately processed and shrimps are mechanically peeled. The production room is acclimatized and all water used is chlorinated, favouring sanitary control.

Continuous freezing and packaging automation allow the product to be exposed to cold for a shorter time without glaze protection, thus preserving the nutritional properties of the fish catch.

Qualified technicians control the production, packaging, stock, expedition, shelf-life and batch operations, providing reliable traceability. In order to store over 3,000 tons of frozen fish with assured quality, the company uses last generation compressor machines with self-regulating temperature controllers.

All raw material is analyzed in its own laboratory, where samples of each supplier are collected upon entry.
