Gomes da Costa expands product offerings

  (BRAZIL, 8/18/2010)
During a trade fair for the wholesale sector, Gomes da Costa will launch new products focused on the brand "88", with two new presentations for tuna shreds in pouches for the food service line.

Gomes da Costa Foods, a company of Grupo Calvo from Spain, participated in the annual Convention for the Brazilian Association of Wholesalers and Distributors (ABAD) with products designed for classes C and D, as a result of sales exceeding the growth of traditional categories.

The launch comes at a time when the company is reaping the benefits from repositioning its brand "88" which was created in 2008, which allowed them to triple and double their market share in the tuna and sardines sector respectively, compared to periods between April and May 2009 and 2010.

The new packaging for the tuna pouches, which are 500 grams and one kilogram for food service companies thus meeting the needs of restaurants and pizzerias in need of quality tuna, competes directly with other brands and low-cost substitutes such as mackerel, which is often used instead of tuna.

"Our 88 line provides wholesalers, distributors and retailers a quality product at an affordable price, to satisfy a rapidly growing market. We want to focus on expanding the distribution line to supply the whole of Brazil," said Luis Manglano, director of marketing for Gomes da Costa.

The main aim is to strengthen the company brand among the C and D public and seek leadership in the sector.

The company has been making significant investments since 2008, when they redesigned and modernised all of their packaging. Since then, with a strategy to reposition and expand its popular line, business began to take off.

The presence at the ABAD fair should promote the distribution and promotion of point of sale. The brand "88" has been part of Gomes da Costa since 1998.

In addition to their "88" branded products, the ABAD trade fair visitors can see product lines such as tuna, sardines and frozen fish from Gomes da Costa.
