Krustagroup Strengthens its Distribution Business in Europe with the Purchse of Italian Effegi

  (SPAIN, 10/13/2023)

The Spanish company Krustagroup S.A.U., specialized in the marketing and distribution of sea and aquaculture products, has acquired the majority of the share capital of the Italian Effegi Service S.p.A, a company with more than 25 years of activity in the distribution of seafood and vegetables in the transalpine country.

Krustagroup, whose exports accounted for 57.3% of its sales in 2022, promotes its growth strategy in the European market, and especially in Italy, in which the company concentrated 10% of its total sales volume in the last year.

The commercial relationship between Krustagroup and Effegi dates back to year 2000. After this operation, both companies will maintain their legal structures and operate independently. The two organizations will seek to take advantage of synergies to enhance their growth in the Italian market.

Effegi's registered and administrative headquarters are located in the province of Mantua The company has a large warehouse with refrigerated space for around 5,000 pallets and a fish product processing plant.

Belonging to the Amasua Group, Krustagroup has 50 years of experience in the food sector, specifically in the marketing of fresh and frozen seafood and aquaculture products. Krustagroup is present in the most demanding markets, including the United States and Japan, where it sells a wide range of fish, shellfish and cephalopods, under its brands Grand Krust, Krustasur and Frío Condal, as well as with distributor brands, in wholesale and retail channels.

Elías Suárez Garmendia.

Krustagroup recorded a turnover of 83.1 million euros in 2022, 10% more than the previous year, and a sales volume of 8,175 tons of seafood products. Likewise, its international sales increased by 29.1%, reaching 50 million euros.

For its part, Effegi has operated since 1997 in the sector of fish products and vegetables, both fresh and frozen, which are distributed throughout the Italian territory. These products are imported and produced at origin and at the company’s facilities, located in Cerreto Guidi (Florence).

Effegi, which employs 30 people, carries out all logistics activities aimed at the different market segments in which it operates -wholesale, large distribution and cruise lines- from its own and other external facilities.

According to Elías Suárez Garmendia, President and CEO of Krustagroup, “Italy has always been a strategic market for us. This operation confirms our strong export vocation and expands the typology of channels for the commercialization of our products, which are distinguished by their high quality standards.”
