HB Grandi sells trawler to Iranian fishing firm
(ICELAND, 6/8/2017)
Fishing firm HB Grandi has reached an agreement to sell its wetfish trawler Ásbjörn to an Iranian fishing company.
According to HB Grandi CEO Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, the sale price is USD 450,000 and the payment will be complete before the handover, which will take place next week.
The firm’s Chief Financial Officer Jónas Guðbjörnsson said that the final delivery date has not been confirmed, and the Iranian buyer intends to use Ásbjörn for demersal trawling with catches frozen on board.
The 620gt trawler was built at Flekkefjord in Norway in 1978, making it 40 years old in 2018. HB Grandi will replace it by the new Engey.
Vilhjálmsson commented on what a successful trawler Ásbjörn has been, having landed approximately 230,000 tonnes of fish with a total catch value of ISK 40 billion (USD 405 million) at today’s values.
