Russia Reports Over 1.8 Million Tons of Seafood Caught in First Four Months of 2025

Strong performance across all fishing basins, led by pollock and herring in the Far East and a sharp increase in anchovy catch in the Azov-Black Sea basin

As of early May 2025, Russian fishing vessels have harvested more than 1.8 million tons of aquatic bioresources, according to the industry monitoring system of the Federal Agency for Fisheries (FSMS).

Regional Catch Overview:

• Far Eastern Basin:
  The region continues to lead national production, with 1,466.1 thousand tons landed.

  • Pollock: 1,072.9 thousand tons

  • Pacific herring: 242.3 thousand tons

  • Cod: 51.0 thousand tons

• Northern Basin:
  A total of 120.8 thousand tons was recorded.

  • Cod: 76.5 thousand tons

  • Haddock: 21.3 thousand tons (an increase of 0.9 thousand tons vs. 2024)

• Western Basin:
  Total catch reached 35.9 thousand tons.

  • Sprat: 24.3 thousand tons (+0.1 thousand tons vs. 2024)

  • Baltic herring: 10.4 thousand tons

• Azov-Black Sea Basin:
  A strong seasonal performance with 15.6 thousand tons, a 29.8% increase over the same period last year.

  • Anchovy: 12.6 thousand tons (+3.4 thousand tons vs. 2024)

• Volga-Caspian Basin:
  The total catch reached 31.2 thousand tons.

  • Sprat: 21.4 thousand tons (+1.3 thousand tons)

  • Other freshwater species: 4.8 thousand tons

• Distant Waters (EEZs, Conventional Zones, and High Seas):
  The Russian fleet landed 142.2 thousand tons, representing a 12.6% increase (+15.8 thousand tons) over the same period in 2024.
