Pinsa Group invests USD 30 million in sardine plant
(MEXICO, 1/26/2016)
Pinsa Group, the company that owns Atun Dolores brand, will invest USD 30 million in building a new plant of canned and frozen sardines, in the port of Guaymas, Sonora.
With this investment, the group will enter the sardine market for human consumption worldwide.
The plant construction began last year and it is expected to start operations in March. In the first stage, it will have a production capacity of 750,000 crates per year - with the goal of reaching over three million - and 50 tonnes of frozen products per day.
In the first year, it will mainly supply the Mexican market, where it will allocate 92 per cent of its production, and the rest will be exported to the United States.
Later, the idea is to export to Central America and Europe under Dolores and Portola brand names in the medium and long term.
The management of the new plant will be in charge of Sardinas de Sonora, the group company dedicated to sardine fishing, production and marketing.
Sardinas de Sonora has a fleet of over 15 vessels, of which 48 are in the Gulf of California, which means just over 30 per cent fishing share in this area.
