Fire causes damage to Camanchaca’s vessel
(CHILE, 1/20/2016)
A fire destroyed part of a fishing boat of Camanchaca that was in repairs in a floating dock of Astilleros y Maestranzas de la Armada (Asmar), in Talcahuano.
The incident occurred about 11.30 am on Tuesday, in one of the holds of fishing vessel Altair.
Despite the large black cloud that covered the naval base, Asmar said the fire could be promptly controlled with the shipyard own means, and the vessel suffered only material damage.
There were no personal injuries or damage.
According to information released so far, a spark that reached the ship’s hold insulation would have originated the fire. Injectable polyurethane material, which is highly combustible, may have been the cause of the fire that also consumed part of the electronic boards.
Asmar reported that they are working to determine the circumstances in which the accident occurred.
