Arctic Salmon is farmed with renewable energy sources, at low density, below 10kg per m3.

A New Approach to Salmon Farming in Harmony With Nature

  (ICELAND, 3/4/2014)

Arctic Salmon by Fjardalax is as close to wild Atlantic Salmon as can be. Pure and wholesome, farmed at low density - below 10kg per m3 - in pollution free waters where the Arctic currents meet the Gulf Stream. The fish has freedom to swim naturally in this swiftly flowing cold fresh water, emulating nature as closely as possible.

The Arctic Salmon is farmed in the Westfjords where nature is as awe-inspiring as it is beautiful. In this sparsely populated and enchanting place there is no ocean pollution; the weather conditions are ideal and the fjords deep and surrounded by steep mountains, affording necessary wind cover.

Arctic Salmon's philosophy is environmentally friendly and self-sustaining salmon farming in harmony with nature.

The history of the Westfjords is deeply intertwined with the history of fishing in Iceland. The people of Westfjords have been sea farers for generations and have invaluable experience and know-how of Arctic Salmon's farming sites. With roots in this community and a team of experts Fjardalax brought together valuable elements for realizing a new concept in salmon farming.

The fish has freedom to swim naturally in this swiftly rushing cold fresh water, emulating nature as closely as possible.

In raising the fish no additives such as antibiotics, chemicals, or delousing methods are used and the ECO feed diet is top grade. Sites are rested for at least one year after harvesting, thereby ensuring the necessary natural cleansing of the seabed. This also means the exclusion of any undesirable and/or irreversible environmental effects and makes it possible to significantly reduce the risk of contagious diseases.

The diet, ECO feed, contains exclusively fish meal and fish oil from sustainable sources in the North-Atlantic.

Fjardalax uses only ECO feed from Laxa Feedmill Ltd. in Iceland. This quality feed contains only fish meal, fish oil from sustainable sources in the North Atlantic, wheat, soy maize, rapeseed and pre-mixed vitamins. All raw materials used in ECO are GMO-free in compliance with EU industry standards for fish feed products.
