Spring Bay Seafoods award winning mussels are the popular choice from fine dining to simple home cooked meals.

Award Winning Tasmanian Blue Mussels and Scallops

  (AUSTRALIA, 2/11/2014)

Spring Bay Seafoods produce some of the finest Blue Mussels in Australia and process both farmed and wild Tasmanian scallops. These premium quality products are raised in Tasmania in some of the purest, coldest water in the world.

The company's processing factory and packhouse is located on the waterfront in Spring Bay, just 4 kilometers from the township of Triabunna.

The expansive are marine farms located in greater Spring Bay and the passage between Spring Bay and picturesque national park – Maria Island.

Unlike most other mussel producers, Spring Bay's mussel farms are located offshore in deep, nutrient-rich waters.

The deepwater oceanic marine farms stretch across some of the most precious and pristine seawater in the world. Located 2 kilometres offshore with a fast flowing, cold and nutritious current, Spring Bay's marine farm is 25-35 metres deep providing a unique growing environment unrivalled anywhere and ideally suited to its unique style of shellfish farming.

Spring Bay Seafoods are export registered.

Spring Bay Seafoods roe-on scallops and blue mussels start their journey here and end up on some of the finest restaurant tables in Australia and in nearby export markets throughout Asia.

Spring Bay Seafoods have one of the only commercial-scale mussel hatcheries anywhere in the world. Using novel rearing techniques the mussels are raised from seed and nurtured under strict quality and environmental conditions, then transferred to suspended lines in the deep waters off Tasmania's East Coast. This vertical integration program ensures a sustainable and reliable supply of perfect mussels well into the future. Spring Bay Mussels are Tasmanian Blue Mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis).

Spring Bay Seafoods process both farmed and wild Tasmanian scallops. The company's 3500 ha marine farm lease is 4 miles offshore in clean sheltered waters adjacent to Maria Island. Spring Bay Scallops are Tasmanian Scallops (Pecten fumatus) also commonly known as "commercial" or "southern" scallops.

Spring Bay Seafoods process scallops and mussels to a ready to cook state.

The 'clean shaven' mussels are packed in a special climate controlled plastic box that retains the 'just harvested' quality.

Spring Bay Seafoods oustanding products and quality management have been recognised through a series of national food awards and the company was recently featured in an excellent documentary on ABC Landline.

Spring Bay Seafoods has achieved National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA) certification – this is both prestigious and a guarantee of organic integrity, a verification of the company's support for sustainable agricultural practices.

It has also won the 2008 ©-STAR Award for its unique method for packaging live chilled Tasmanian mussels. The mussels are kept alive and fresh in a specially designed oxygen-rich atmosphere for nine days from their harvest date. This enables the mussels to stay fresh for longer, improving customer satisfaction and distributor convenience.
