New Pole & Line Eco-Friendly Responsible Tuna

Ocean’s has added its New Pole & Line Chunk and Flaked Light Tuna in Water to its quality range of seafood products.

Pole & Line is a simple and eco-friendly method of tuna fishing using a hook attached to a pole.

This method is rated by many conservation groups as the most environmentally friendly method of fishing tuna, as it eliminates by-catch of other marine life such as sea turtles and sharks.

Ocean's Pole & Line tuna is caught in the Maldives in the Indian Ocean. The pole and line fishery yields positive socio-economic benefits for the Maldives including job creation and the development of a sustainable export industry. Ocean's is a founding member of the International Pole & Line Foundation.

In 2008, the company implemented two core strategies to bolster its approach, including the development of a Green Group and a fully audited carbon footprint to reduce environmental impacts and maximize efficiencies wherever possible.

Ocean's canned and frozen seafood products are distributed through major retail and food service channels across Canada and to several overseas markets

Ocean’s policy is to procure tuna from regions that are fished at sustainable levels and to work closely with suppliers to ensure dolphin friendly fishing methods are implemented at all times.
