Barcelona Will Host a New International Seafood Exhibition

  (SPAIN, 9/19/2011)

Seafood Barcelona will be held at Fira de Barcelona and will focus on bringing buyers and sellers together focusing on Spain and Southern Europe.

“Barcelona is the perfect location to hold a fair that brings all aspects of the seafood and seafood processing industry” said J. Antonio Valls, deputy managing director of Alimentaria Exhibitions.

The project is the result of an agreement between the company Alimentaria Exhibitions - organizers, among others, of Alimentaria- and the American group Diversified Business Communications.

The first event in 2012 will host 300 companies from seafood and seafood processing/ technology companies and will attract high-level seafood buyers. According to Mary Larkin, Group Vice President of Diversified’s seafood events and publications, “Seafood Barcelona provides a new opportunity for seafood buyers and sellers to target the important Spanish and Southern European marketplace”.

Spain is a leading seafood producing and consuming nation. Data provided from the Ministry of the Environment and Rural Marine Affairs shows that seafood is consumed in 70 percent of Spanish households with consumption of 2.2 kg per capita per month. Spain is the world’s third largest manufacturer of canned seafood generating Euros 2.2 billion. Spain exported 992,489 tonnes of seafood in 2010, being the first exporting country Secretary-General, Juan Manuel Vieites, the holding of a fair of Seafood's magnitude in Spain is "very positive for businesses, given our country's importance in fishery and fish farming produce".

Both organizers have a proven track record in organizing expositions in the agri-food sector and in organizing events worldwide.
