Working in Harmony with the Untamed Forces of Nature

  (NORWAY, 11/29/2023)

On the coast of central Norway, the Atlantic provides strong currents and high tidal range, ensuring an abundance of fresh, clean seawater. It's here, in one of the most beautiful coastal landscapes in the world, that Norwegian company Måsøval produces one of the best ingredients in the world, Salmon: Made by nature, pioneered by Måsøval.

Måsøval AS has operated aquaculture businesses since 1973. Led by the third generation of the Måsøval family, the company now produces more than 25,000 tonnes of salmon a year, serving 2.6 million people – every single week, year round. And even though they already have achieved a lot, they are still hungry for more sustainable growth.

Måsøval aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry, by actively working to ensure that the commpany has the smallest possible footprint at every stage of production.

The sea off Frøya has an unusually large tidal range. The salmon swims in a steady stream of fresh, cold water. The result is healthy salmon, with a dense and fine structure, the right fat content and a wonderful red colour. The nature outside Frøya makes the very best salmon. Ever since the start Måsøval has worked in harmony with the untamed forces of nature on the Norwegian coast.

Måsøval is the only Norwegian fish farmer that delivers salmon to Balik and other exclusive producers, through Pure Norwegian Seafood. Every single week, the company provides healthy and good food all around the world.

Måsøval has been GlobalG.A.P.-certified since 2013.

Frøya lies on the coast of Central Norway, where the natural conditions are optimal for producing Atlantic salmon. Here, the salmon greatly benefit from clean, cold and oxygen-rich water from the Gulf Stream and the Norwegian Sea.

The Norwegian aquaculture industry envisions a five-fold increase in production in the next 40 years. Måsøval wants to be a sustainable part of this growth. With a growing population to feed, the ocean – covering 70% of the globe – offers a key opportunity. The UN recognizes the ocean as a driver for global systems that ultimately make the Earth inhabitable for humankind, making careful management of the ocean a key feature of a sustainable future.

Måsøval's salmon production is characterized by a high survival rate, very good growth, and good disease control.

Måsøval is well aware of its responsibility as a producer of food from the ocean and how production touches several of the sustainability goals defined by the UN. Although the company has not yet drawn up its own key sustainability goals, Måsøval has already implemented numerous measures to increase sustainability in the company and the aquaculture industry.
