Korean imports of Russian seafood decreased by half

As of last August, seafood imported from Russia to Korea had decreased by half.
A total of 198,946 tons were imported, which is a 47% decrease compared to 378,936 tons in the same period of 2022, and the import amount was USD 66.38 million, a 31% decrease compared to USD 95.9 million in the same period of the previous year.
The main species imported from Russia continues to be frozen pollock, which was imported with 88,339 tons, 44% of the total imported volume, and 93.38 million dollars, which represented 21% of the total imported amount.Compared to the same period in 2022, import volume decreased by 63.2% and export amount decreased by 64%. The average import price was USD 1.06/kg, a slight decrease compared to USD 1.09/kg in the same period of 2022.
The 2nd most imported fishes was frozen herring, which came in at 18,121 tons, accounting for 9.1% of the total export volume. This was a 24% decrease in volume compared to the same period last year, and the average import price was USD 0.74/kg.

The 3rd was frozen pollock roe, with imports increasing by 12% to 11,785 tons, accounting for 5.9% of the total.
The 4th was frozen sardines, which accounted for 5.7% of total exports, and imports increased significantly by 103% compared to 2022.
The 5th. is frozen yellowfin sole with 9,099 tons, accounting for 4.57%, and the import volume increased by 8%.

The 6th was frozen pollock milt, which accounted for 4.5% of total imports, and the volume increased by 19.1% compared to 2022.
By August 2023, Russian seafood products accounted for 31% of the entire country's import volume of 647,896 tons, and the average import price was USD 3.54/kg, a 31.8% increase compared to USD 2.53/kg the previous year.
