"With this vessel, we have taken an important step in our journey towards net zero emissions. Our hope is to show the way - not only for Maersk but for the entire logistics industry." says Vincent Clerc, CEO, AP Moller - Maersk

Explore our new green fuel powered vessels

The latest addition to our fleet proves it is possible to sail a container vessel on green methanol. Our goal is to make this the standard for all new Maersk vessels in the future.

Our new feeder vessel was built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea, and is destined for service in the Baltic Sea. It has a container capacity of 2,100 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit).

Welcome to our fleet of the future

Our next generation vessels come with a dual fuel engine setup which can sail on green methanol as well as conventional low sulphur fuel.

  • The new vessels feature an innovative dual fuel engine, developed in collaboration with MAN Energy Solutions.
  • When operating on green methanol, the engine offers low-carbon propulsion.
  • Vessel design prioritises flexibility, enabling efficient performance across trades in line with our customers’ needs.

Greener fleet facts

  • Efficiency: 25% of Maersk's container volume will be transported using green fuels by 2030
  • Fuel: Green methanol (bio-methanol or e-methanol)
  • Fleet: 25 dual fuel vessels on order ranging from 2,000 TEU container capacity to 16,000 TEU
  • Engine: MAN G50 or G95 dual fuel engine capable of running on green methanol or conventional fuel
  • Delivery: Full fleet of green fuel powered vessels will be delivered and operational by 2027
  • GHG Savings: The first 19 vessels will generate around 2.3 million tonnes of annual GHG emissions savings upon deployment and replacement of older vessels

Transformative partnerships

Going all the way to zero is a collaborative effort. That's why we are partnering with industry leading innovators to accelerate the change.
