Telefónica Tech promotes the digitization of aquaculture farms with Big Data and AI tools
(SPAIN, 5/16/2023)
Telefónica Tech, through its company Geprom and its Big Data and Artificial Intelligence business line, has developed a plan to digitize the 14 aquaculture farms that Stolt Sea Farm has in Spain, Portugal, France, Iceland and Norway within a period of five years.
Stolt Sea Farm is a leading terrestrial turbot and sole aquaculture company with more than 50 years of experience in the market. Thanks to the plan designed by Telefónica Tech, Stolt Sea Farm will have a pioneering digital tool that will allow it to optimize its business, by giving it the ability to predict the supply and demand of its fish. The tool will integrate various industrial digitalization platforms with the data collected in the plants and analyzed with Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.
The Stolt Sea Farm aquaculture farm digitalization project is one of the success stories presented by Telefónica Tech at the seventh edition of the Advanced Factories 2023 congress, held in Barcelona from April 18 to 20. In a presentation, Darío Cesena, CEO of Geprom, and Jorge Juan Alfonso, head of food operations at Stolt Sea Farm, explained how the need to digitize aquaculture farms arose and how technology is helping the company to optimize its business.

Machine learning algorithms will provide Stolt Sea Farm with patterns to improve its planning, as advanced analytics will give it an estimate of customer orders and it will be able to more efficiently manage the fish it has to slaughter. In addition, you will be able to optimize your processes to more accurately quantify the number of turbot and sole fingerlings that you must introduce into the farms to ensure that they reach the right size on time.
“We are very proud to have developed a pioneering analytics plan for Stolt Sea Farm that will help optimize their business margins. The application of technologies such as Big Data and Artificial Intelligence allow the industrial sector to base itself on the analyzed data to make better decisions aimed at transforming their business models and making them more efficient and competitive”, says Darío Cesena, CEO of Geprom, Part of Telefónica Tech.
For his part, Jorge Juan Alfonso, head of food operations at Stolt Sea Farm, affirms that "the digitization of both demand planning and our production processes, both in an integrated manner, will contribute to a better service to our customers and to better internal management of operational processes”.
