The Danish Fishing Association (DFPO) brings together Danish fishermen. We have been doing so for over 130 years. With strong cooperation with local fishing associations and more than 550 vessel members, we are one of the largest fishing associations in the EU.
Our fishermen and fisheries are diverse. Coastal fishermen, industrial fishermen, bottom trawlers, lobster fishermen – the Danish Fisheries Association represents them all, both large and small vessels across the country.
We have a strong focus on sustainability. And we are constantly working to become even better. Both when it comes to social, economic and environmental sustainability.
For codfish, flatfish and shellfish, our fishermen account for 90 percent of Danish catches. We help secure up to 16,000 jobs, especially around the port communities, and contribute large export revenues to ensure Danish prosperity.
That's why we call ourselves the Danes' Fishermen.
As per January 2000 the number of members in the DFPO is approximately 2.100 owners of vessels or of fishing operations - corresponding to about 70 % of the total Danish fishing capacity.
