According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), this is the 4th time the EC Inspection Team has come to inspect the situation of removing Vietnam's seafood "yellow card".
The goal of this working trip is to evaluate the results of implementing the EC's recommendations on combating IUU fishing, focusing on examining the delegation's recommendations after the third inspection trip in October 2022 to bring concluded that the "yellow card" warning for Vietnam's exploited seafood products could be removed or maintained.
The content focuses on controlling fishing vessels violating foreign waters, controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and operating at sea, controlling imported raw materials and tracing the origin of seafood from exploitation.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said that from November 2022 until now, Vietnam has focused on implementing 4 groups of EC recommendations to combat IUU fishing and remove "yellow card" warnings, including: Completing the legal framework; monitor, inspect and control the activities of fishing vessels and manage the fleet; certification of output and traceability of exploited aquatic products; and law enforcement.
"The EC Inspection Team will be present in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Government leaders and Head of the National Steering Committee for IUU Prevention will have a meeting with the EC Inspection Team on IUU enforcement," said the leader of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to the work schedule, on October 11 - 15, the EC Inspection Team will work with the Department of Animal Health, the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development, a number of export enterprises, and conduct field inspections at the port. designated fish under the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) and locally.
