ACI has sign an agreement with BioMar Group for the establishment of a new joint venture factory for the production of tilapia feed in Costa Rica

Premium Tilapia from Costa Rica

  (COSTA RICA, 3/22/2011)

Aqua Corporación SA International (ACI) is a world leader in the production, processing and marketing of tilapia. ACI is situated in about 600 hectares of land where tilapia is farmed from birth until it reaches about 1000 grams of weight. Weather conditions and water quality are ideal for producing high quality tilapia.

ACI is the second largest single producer of fresh tilapia fillets in the Americas and a major exporter of fresh tilapia to the United States

Aqua Corporación farms its tilapia using the water resources for electricity generation from a reservoir and the water used for power generation is then employed for the production of tilapia and subsequently utilized in irrigation systems.

Terrapez, ACI’s processing plant, receives the live tilapia from the farm production and transforms it into different products, mainly fresh tilapia fillets.

The processing plant is under the free zone regime operating under strict international standards, including FDA/USA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, INTE 18001, HACCP BASC which ensures an end product of the highest quality. Aqua Corporación SA International and Terrapez are located in Cañas, Guanacaste.

The company has sign an agreement with BioMar Group for the establishment of a new joint venture factory for the production of tilapia feed in Costa Rica.

The new factory is expected to start production within the next year and will deliver premium quality fish feed to the growing production of tilapia in Central and South America.

The Joint Venture is also later going to be central in BioMar efforts to develop new concepts and diets for marine species supporting the aquaculture development in Central America.

Rain Forest Aquaculture, the company that coordinates the sales and distribution of ACI tilapia products,  employs more than 1180 people in Costa Rica and the United States

Carlos Enrique González chairman of the board of ACI said: “One of the main benefits of this deal is that we will have access to the latest knowledge in nutrition and feed development. We will be working with the leading company in starter feeds and with the Joint Venture factory we can also have the most cost efficient grower diets. On top of this, the Joint Venture will ensure us complete traceability all through the value chain. This will guaranty the highest possible value of the end product.”
