Supreme Court ratifies fine of CLP 157 million to Pesca Chile

The Supreme Court ratified a fine of 3,515 MTU (monthly tax units), equivalent to about CLP 157.4 million (USD 224,800), to Pesca Chile SA for having exceeded its golden kingklip fishing quota.
The Third Chamber of the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an appeal filed by a fishing company and ratified the decision of the Court of Coyhaique taken on 26 June.
The penalty is due to an infringement by the vessel Puerto Ballena, between 20 October and 30 November, 2013. As it is stated in the new ruling, Pesca Chile SA exceeded the maximum quota set by the authorities by 33.39 tonnes and reported the fact almost two months after the date when it should have notified it.
