Iceland Pelagic is owned by two key players in the Icelandic seafood industry, both of whom have been the main driving force in their local communities for decades. Together these companies form a group which is involved in fishing, processing and selling frozen, salted and fresh seafood.
Iceland Pelagic also cooperates in sales and logistics of frozen fish and seafood from a number of producers in Iceland and Greenland.
The Group
Isfelag Vestmannaeyja, established in 1901, operates 4 processing units on shore: a fishmeal factory and a freezing plant in Vestmannaeyjar as well as a fishmeal factory and a freezing plant in Thorshofn. It also operates its own fleet of vessels.
Skinney-Thinganes was established in 1946, operates a ourishing fishing industry, including saltfish processing, a freezing plant and a fishmeal factory in Hornafjordur and a groundfish plant in Thorlakshofn. It also operates its own fleet of vessels.
Iceland Pelagic was established in 2008 as a sales unit by these two fishing and processing companies as a sales unit with the main focus on pelagics for Eastern Europe. Since then, Iceland Pelagic has been expanding its product portfolio and market area and is now one of the main exporters of seafood from Iceland.
Blumaris was established in 2016 to oversee trade in fresh and frozen groundfish and langoustine products. Since the company is located in France, the main focus is on France and nearby countries such as Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy.
March 31 2020 - Brim has reached an agreement on the purchase of one-third share in Iceland Pelagic ehf. by Ísfélag Vestmannaeyja and Skinney-Thinganes.
